SDVAN Monthly Message for December 2014

Dear SDVAN Visitors, Art Resources and Artists,

Portia La Touche: Snow Whispers Among the Birches

  • New Our banner is in support of the annual holiday party (above) and as well as our ask for donation to our organization.
This is your invitation to our SDVAN Potluck Holiday Lunch, Tuesday, December 9 from 11 to 2 pm. 2487 Montgomery Avenue , Cardiff by the Sea, Ca 92007) RSVP: patricia@sdvisualarts.net 760.943.0148 . Please bring: One dish or drinks for 8 to share plus Jewelry and Accessories for exchange. Invite illustration by Portia Le Touche.

The SDVAN Annual 2014 Holiday Potluck Lunch is a chance to clean out your costume jewelry drawer and maybe get a few pieces in exchange for those items of yours that are looking for a new home. It is very casual, first come first choose, but as people arrive at different times, there are new selections over the course of the party. Accessories include jewelry, shoes, belts, hats, purses, scarves, anything you want to have a new home. No money is exchanged. This year I am adding a few of my most deluxe cookbooks that need new homes. I guess all that gourmet dining in England has made this a food and art year for me and I want to pass that on! Add that to your list of exchanges if you like. All spare books will go to the Cardiff by the Sea Library.

  • New This has been a bumper year for SDVAN with the highly acclaimed DNA of Creativity exhibition and the special launch of our SD View Art NowWWW.SDVAN.NET/APP . We got lots of "Wow, it does that!" reactions to our new app at the SD Art Prize booth at Art San Diego. Yes, it locates where you are by GPS and then up pops all the art events listed on our site in a Google map around you. Make sure and check it out on your computer, smart phone or tablet. Remember when you list your event on our calendar, it automatically appears on the app as well.

We want to continue to make more improvement to the SDVAN site as well as continue our programming in aid of the visual arts in San Diego by offering :
  • improved search capacity for visitors to the site including art resources, artists and opportunities
  • improved missing password facilitation for all art resources
  • easier ways to add images to the events calendar with better editing capacity
  • better administrative tools for helping our resources access the site
  • continuing collaborative opportunities for exposure to artists and art resources

We ask now for your end of year donations which are fully tax deductible and look forward to seeing all of your names on our 2014 Supporters list which is now posted.
Please remember that SDVAN is a 100% volunteer organization with no bricks and mortar overheads and so all your donations go to our programming needs. We also remind you that money given to SDVAN is money given to help the visual arts in the entire region of San Diego prosper and be recognized as a vibrant and creative resource. Please consider becoming more involved with SDVAN by giving of your time, expertise, and with your donations. Those of you who can give $25 of more will be listed on the permanent sponsor page. We would love to see your name on BOTH the 2014 and the permanent list! Feel free to contact us with suggestions or questions.

This was reported in the Oct 17 email blast from the supervisor’s office “ How best to advance the arts was the topic of my Wednesday meeting with (from left) Jim Gilliam, Naomi Nussbaum, Patricia Frischer and John Eger

Dear SDVAN Visitors, Art Resources and Artists

Patricia Frischer
coordinator, SDVAN, 760.943.0148

On a personal note: I am tucked away in Palm Springs with my family, caring for my 93 year old mother and imagining so many of you in similar surrounding. I am so grateful for the whole visual arts family that has made us so welcome in San Diego. I want to wish you all a very happy holiday season and an exciting and full filling New Year.
