Our banner by Cheryl Sorg  is in support of GIVING TUESDAY this year on TUESDAY NOVEMBER 28TH. Every year we remind out supporters about the Giving Tuesday campaign. We appreciate our supporters and their cash donations and when you read this, we hope you will remember to make your annual donation to SDVAN.

This year we decided to offer the opportunity to support San Diego Visual Arts Network to a selected artist. We gave Cheryl Sorg the remit to incorporate the Giving Tuesday Logo into a specially designed art work that we could use on our website and emails to promote the day. Ms. Sorg uses a special paper that changes color from different angles. So when photographed from different viewpoints it appears to be a whole new work of art. We made a selection of these to create the banner for our site this month..

We give back to our supporters every year with a no fee accessory exchange party. This year we have invited Cheryl Sorg to showcase her works of art at that party on Tue. Dec 12. We hope that the coverage we give to her along with our thanks will be of benefit to her. We certainly believe by having an original work of art created especially for our campaign, we are getting a great benefit from her. Many thanks to Cheryl Sorg.

Dear SDVAN Visitors, Art Resources and Artists,

  • New January's RAW Column: “Humanity could not have developed art, music, literature, science, philosophy, and it could not have brought forth the ideas of peace and justice, kindness and compassion if there had not been the possibility of improving upon ourselves. As we suspend in the gracious beneficence of a sunbeam, visualize our majestic personal starship. Hold it in your hands. That's us. Think of it kindly. Think of it compassionately. Think of it responsibly. Then, take a next good step. Help us evolve a little bit more. It is all up to us. And we can do it together.” Carolyn Benesh, Robert Liu and Patrick Benesh-Liu, Ornament Magazine

On a personal note:

The San Diego sister of the Nasty Women Exhibition that launched in New York is open for submission for a show at the Helmuth projects opening Jan 21 rom 2 to 8 pm and running until Jan 28.. The idea is to organize a group exhibition that demonstrates solidarity among artists who identify with being a Nasty Woman in the face of threats to roll back women’s rights, individual rights, and abortion rights. It also serves as a fundraiser to support organizations defending these rights and to be a platform for organization concurrent with the Presidential Inauguration weekend and Women’s Marches across the county. The NastyWomenSanDiego.org  Exhibition will be donating 100% of proceeds to Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, La Maestra Community Health Centers, and San Diego LGBT Community Center.Learn more and submit online: https://nastywomensandiego.org Submission Forms must be received by January 6, 2017

Glashaus, La Bodega  and Bread & Salt in Barrio Logan will all need to pass fire regulations before they are allowed to have public gatherings. This crackdown is due to the terrible tragedy in Oakland of the artist studios when so many died. Better safe than sorry and good that we are starting the new year with extra precautions. La Bodega needs $38,000 and has started a GoFundMe campaign to help raise the money for restoration cost.

Namaste: Spirituality in Contemporary Art at Sergott CAA will be closing with a reception on Jan 6 at 6 pm. For more info: Sergott Contemporary Art Alliance in Rancho Santa Fe.
