Event Description This October, Cornelia Feye, former director of arts education at the Athenaeum, presents a series of 4 lectures on 20th century German art. October 17 Lecture: 1919-1933: Bauhaus and Neue Sachlichkeit After World War I, the art movement Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) emerged as a reaction to the horrors of the war. Main artists in this group were Max Beckmann, Georg Grosz, Otto Dix and Käthe Kollwitz. Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus School of art and design in Weimar in 1919. Its international faculty included Vassily Kandinsky, Josef Albers and Paul Klee. It strove to connect high art and industrial design and architecture.
