Event Description Working in oils, students will be given an opportunity to paint "en plein air" (in the open air.) We will meet each week at a different location, where students will learn how to quickly compose and capture a scene in oil. In addition to the basics of how to equip oneself and set up on location, there will be an emphasis on composition, value, color, edges, and perspective. This course will also encourage students to think about creating a focal point and atmosphere in their plein air paintings. Previous experience painting in oils is encouraged.

Event Description Kensington’s Edgeware Gallery, is the newest gallery in the Kensington community. It is sponsored and supported by Autism Research Institute, which has been a fixture in the neighborhood for over forty years. In commemoration of Kensington’s 100th anniversary, Edgeware Gallery is hosting Kensington’s first ‘LOCALS ONLY” exhibition – exclusively featuring Kensington artists Brad Burkhart ,Kim Maria Cruz, Susan Mae Hull , David Hunt, Conrad Macheski ,Tara Nichole, Bill Pierce ,Mark Rimland , Michael Starkow and Maura Vazakas. Opening reception on Saturday February 27, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., According to Dr. Steven Edelson, Director of Kensington’s Autism Research Institute and Edgeware Gallery “ Our Kensington heritage , is something we are very proud of .and we are doing our part to bring the outside public to the area, and generating awareness of neighborhood’s restaurants, shops, movie theatre and businesses. This exhibition will feature a variety of works including watercolors, posters, woodblock prints, sculptures, and photographic based pieces. In addition, several of the pieces will feature Kensington landmarks recognizable to locals. In keeping with the Kensington theme, at 6:00pm, long-time local favorite, Gregory Page, will be performing an acoustic guitar set in the Courtyard.

Event Description Engage your senses at Oceanside Museum of Art’s Culinary Cinema Series, a program that pairs food themed films with mouth-watering cuisine in the beautiful setting of the museum. On Saturday, February 27th at 5:30 pm the museum will screen the classic film “Gloomy Sunday” and serve a delicious dinner inspired by the film’s tantalizing “beef roll.” The Culinary Cinema event will begin with tray passed hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine leading into the viewing of the award winning film “Gloomy Sunday”. Immediately after the screening, guests will enjoy a formal sit down dinner. The talented Chef Steve Akin of San Diego’s iconic DZ Akins will prepare a gourmet meal including roulade of beef stuffed with imported cheeses, served alongside a medley of vegetables, potatoes and fresh homemade breads. The evening will end with a dessert and coffee bar. Reservations are required in advance and limited to 80 guests. Cost is $60 for OMA members, and $75 for non-members. Call the museum at 760-435-3721 for reservations. Based on a novel by Nick Barkow, “Gloomy Sunday” is a German/Hungarian film co-written and directed by Rolf Schubel in 1999. Set in World War II Hungary, the film centers on a romantic love triangle and the fictional story of the famous song “Gloomy Sunday.” The story begins in a Budapest eatery, Restaurant Szabo where restaurant owner, Laszlo (Joachim Krol), and pianist Andras (Stefano Dionisi), fall in love with Ilona (Erika Marozsan), a waitress at Szabo. The plot thickens when their regular customer Hans (Ben Becker), an SS colonel, begins to pursue Ilona's affections.
