Event Description Featuring 40 collaborating artists, scientists and educators, this unique exhibition explores the power of fusing the energies of art and science to promote understanding and new ways of viewing the world. Presenting artwork created by four teams, this exhibition focuses on four separate initiatives. Teams include: Sea Changes: Act, Urban Succession, PolyAesthetic Mapping: The Muses (PAMM) and View Art Now. Sea Changes: Act will display coral-like glass art pieces along with a large installation to motivate community action around plastic pollution, over-fishing and climate change/acidification. Urban Succession has created sculptural homes that fit the needs of specific species in urban settings. Select sculptures will be on display in addition to video documentation of animals experiencing these habitats. Team PAMM developed a software application that will eventually be used as a survey tool to map a variety of aesthetic expressions. Finally, View Art Now is developing a mobile app

Event Description In his new series of narrative graphic images John Daniel Abel brings to light the invisible one-third of our society living below the poverty level. His evocative chiaroscuro drawings and digital prints present character studies, situations and environments about life on the edge that can be challenging to digest. Based on the old trade union term Rank n’ File, (originally army jargon for foot soldiers in the chain of command), his graphics tell the story of blue collar labor and life in a loose chronological sequence of birth, youth, working adulthood, old age, and death. This exhibition will be on view April 12-August 3, 2014.

A simultaneity of perspectives occur by reading one image through the other, potentially opening a new space between what is considered to be known and unknown. Exploring found imagery as a way to revitalize, reorganize, and reveal the possibility of new relationships amidst previously defined histories. The artist inquires into the way visual and physical forms and patterns become representative of what we know of ourselves, the relationship between the self, the objectified, and nature.
