Event Description

Space4art presents the work of Shana Demassi, Ana Teresa Fernandez, and Erika Ostrander. Using materials as disparate as tar, hair and glass, the presented works deal with sense and immediacy through performance, sculpture and projection. These common substances morph beyond their familiar forms and ask the viewer to reconsider notions of reflection and transience. The exhibit includes a performance by Ostrander during the August 16th reception. Artists Susan Takano, Abel Guzman, and Nichole Speciale will be showing art demonstrating provocative uses of color, line, space, and materials. Art was chosen for this exhibition based on unique approaches to subject, technique, and composition. HILLSIGN: BOOK | BODY | MAP is an idiosyncratic, quasi-scientific investigation of the interstices between ethereal spaces and the linear, discrete world of the record. The book, the body, and the map are viewed as interrelated/interchangeable concepts that participate in the construction of internal and intuitive landscapes (the hillsign). Bobbie Fisher is a San Diego based artist and lifelong native of the county. She received her BA in 2004 and MFA in 2009 from San Diego State University.
