Event Description

ArtWalk San Diego is headed back to NTC @ Liberty Station from Saturday, Aug. 16 to Sunday, Aug. 17 for the 9th edition of the annual art festival. The event will reconvene at the Naval Training Center grounds in Point Loma, for a weekend of art, food, live entertainment and fun for visitors of all ages. This year’s event will feature over 175 local, regional and international artists. Collectible and approachable art includes nearly every medium, from painting to sculpture, to photography, art glass, to ceramics and jewelry. The “Artes de Mexico” section of the event is one of the favorite installations, featuring more than 12 artists from Baja this year. An array of delicious street food options is available at the park, as well as the popular “KidsWalk” area with interactive art activities for families. ArtWalk NTC @ Liberty Station will be located at Ingram Plaza, at 2645 Historic Decatur Rd. and will run from 10 AM until 6 PM. Attendance is free!

This fun 5 week session will teach children many techniques in sculpture, while giving them a fun final product that they can use again and again! Children will learn how to build an armature, use an additive process to create a 3 dimensional object, sew, and paint. Using materials as disparate as tar, hair and glass, the presented works deal with sense and immediacy through performance, sculpture and projection. These common substances morph beyond their familiar forms and ask the viewer to reconsider notions of reflection and transience. The exhibit includes a performance by Ostrander during the August 16th reception.
