Event Description An art exhibition by Lynn Susholtz in collaboration with The New Arrival Center students at Crawford High School February 6 to March 1 Bread & Cie Bakery & Café 350 University Avenue San Diego, CA 92103 “Hello, My Name Is...” tells the stories and dreams of travel, relocation and growing up. Students from the New Arrival Center worked with Lynn Susholtz and their teachers to create art that tells stories of their travels from their home countries. The New Arrival Center serves immigrant and refugee students providing a solid foundation in oral and written English for students who are new to the United States. Across the New Arrival Center at Crawford, most of the students have had some form of interrupted formal education and have experienced varying degrees of violence and trauma. These students have already overcome enormous obstacles in their young lives and are now learning a new language, culture, social, and educational system. They strive to achieve their goals and better their lives with a level of sincerity and enthusiasm that belies the awful situations that many of them have escaped. That they are now able and ready to share their stories is a testament to their will to survive and now thrive. Come support these extraordinary young artists!! www.artproduce.org

Event Description Aaron Zigel, who lives and paints in Raanana, Israel, is bringing his wonderful oil paintings to O’Dunn Fine Art. The artist will be present at the opening of the exhibition on Friday, February 6, from 5 pm to 9 pm. His exuberant oils celebrate color, the landscapes and seascapes of Israel, and the comforts and beauty inherent in quiet domestic scenes. He is enchanted with flowers, often the focal point of his lively still life paintings. Zigel’s personal habitat stands at the center of his work: warm, reassuring, and intimate. Zigel’s oils are founded in primary colors, and saturated with bold complimentary hues. This artist is having a ball with color! In the tradition of 20th century fauvists and expressionists, his treatment of recognizable scenes and objects often leaves aside traditional perspective, in favor of an ‘object language’ that fully evokes the emotional impact of flowers, chairs, boats, and trees. Call 619-337-8342, for information.
