GLASS BLOWING BASICS 6 to 9 pm In this 4 week class you will learn the basic skills required to work independently in front of the furnace and how to become a valuable part of a glass blowing team. This is a skill focused class. All materials and tools are provided. Each session will run three hours including practice time. Minimum 4 Students, Maximum 6 No prior experience necessary. Minimum age 16. Week 1 – Safety, tools, gather, shape and punti Week 2 – Safety, tools, gather, shape, puff, and jack Week 3 – blow a clear tumbler Week 4 – blow a color tumbler With completion of this course you are eligible for studio rental membership. STEAMConnect is hosting a Welcome Reception on Weds, March 4, 5:30-8:00pm at SILO in Makers Quarter™ located at 753 15th St. in downtown San Diego to kick off its 2nd Annual Ascend Conference. The organization is bridging arts (A) and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) industries, education professionals, community members and funders, creating space for cross-sector connections and collaborations. The evening will include the first annual STEAM awards presented by Mayor Kevin Faulconer, the unveiling of a student designed pavilion celebrating a new partnership with NewSchool of Architecture & Design and an annual student design competition. Speakers will include Stacey Pennington of Makers Quarter and Dr. Elena Pacenti of NewSchool of Architecture & Design as well as Navrina Singh of Qualcomm.
