Event Description Come participate in an in-gallery workshop with Dia Bassett based on her sculptural work, which integrates knitting techniques with found materials to create large scale sculptures and that can be integrated into creative placemaking initiatives outdoors in Balboa Park.

Dia Bassett is an artist from San Diego, California. Her involvement in performance both behind stage and onstage has influenced her art, leading her to create a blend of sculpture, installation, and performance. Her erratic rendition of these methods help her to undermine textile craft qualities and align them with contemporary sculpture.

Workshop is $25 for regular participants and $20 for members
Saturday/ 2-5pm
Session Date: 11/7

Solo exhibition by Stephanie Takemoto.

Stephanie Takemoto is a Los Angeles based painter and graphic artist who dreams of a life filled with endless creative possibilities. Her style is highly influenced by her mixed heritage, growing up amongst Japanese pop culture, manga, toys, urban vinyl, art nouveau, illustration, geek culture, film, and the complexities of the female psyche.

Her illustrative signature can be found in the maze-like spiraled tresses adorning each of her painted muses. Her female characters are often portrayed in a quiet inner conflict of longing, desire and self contemplation. Stephanie has exhibited her works in group shows across the U.S.

Event Description Artists have been embedding messages in their work since the cave painters. Sometimes it’s difficult to know where the painting ends and the writing begins. Just Sayin’ is an exhibition paying homage to that technique in contemporary art. The artist’s opening, November 7, 6-8 PM, will reveal the 63 artists chosen from over 200 submissions, nationwide. The requirements for submission to this exhibition were that words, numbers or letters be included the piece, leaving the artists free to join art and script however they felt led to create. The First Place winner and Best of Show will receive cash prizes. They will also be displayed prominently in the show catalog along with the Juror’s Choice recipient. The winners will be announced at the artist’s reception. The exhibition will run through November 29. All work exhibited in the show will be for sale.
