The New Americans Museum is excited to announce the 2016 opening program season with two exhibitions drawing inspiration from teen children of immigrants and personal and inspirational ‘heroes’. Quetzal Maucci’s unforgettable photo-portraits series Children of Immigrants (on view: Feb. 12 – March 12) depicts teen-age millennial subjects whether immigrants themselves or children of recent immigrants as they struggle with adapting or claiming an American identity amidst negotiating between two worlds, two identities; while Jay Lizo’s anticipated A Song From My Hero Collection (on view: Feb. 12 through May 26) takes a close, personal look at ‘hero selection’ invoking a process of collaborating with high school students and artist-facilitated ‘hero workshops’ resulting in collaborative new works in media, alongside sculpture and Lizo’s series of 40 paintings of famous and iconic heroes. An opening reception & ‘happening’ with Lizo DJ’ing, will be held on Friday, February 12 from 5:30-8:00p |
