Event Description ArtHatch and Distinction Gallery are excited to announce the upcoming exhibition of Tennessee based Michael Aaron Williams. The artwork will consist of paintings created with coffee and ink applied to joined ledger paper from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The Opening Reception will be on Saturday, February 13th from 6 – 9pm. The show will continue through March 5th. In the artists words “Through my paintings and drawings, I attempt to 
represent the fragile nature of life, purity, and culture. Paint and ink are the vehicles 
by which movement and conflict are expressed. The beauty and pain of human 
nature are represented by the creation and deconstruction of the artwork. Rather 
than wholeness necessitating beauty, I portray the human soul as complete despite the fractures.As such, the artwork becomes more relatable to the viewer and

Event Description For anyone who has never created their own handmade book or for those who would like a quick and easy book to use for writing, a visual journal or travel journal. Students will be making a taped codex book with a wrapped cover. Size will be 28 pages plus cover, 7.5 inches by 5.5 inches using 90lb. watercolor paper. The book pages are created by folding the paper and tearing it. Just a little taping and gluing will complete the finished book. In addition, students will be decorating the cover with their own handmade stamps created in class. This structure can be easily adapted to a wide variety of sizes & shapes. Event Description “Rock the Red” Exhibition at Art on 30th A Valentine’s Weekend Alternative to the Usual Rock the Red is Art on 30th’s annual, juried art exhibit giving San Diegans something different to do with their sweethearts for their Valentine’s celebration. In honor of this romantic holiday, paintings featuring the color red will be the focus of this show. The work of regional artists exhibiting will run the gamut of abstract to realism with the unifying theme of red. “Red is a hot color,” according to founder and director of Art on 30th, Kate Ashton, “it symbolizes passion and intensity and that’s what Valentine’s Day is all about. So instead of long restaurant waits, chocolates or diamonds, try art to express your love.” The opening reception takes place at the Ashton Gallery at Art on 30th, February 13, 2016 from 6-8pm. And there will be chocolate!

Event Description The San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) presents Best in Show: a multimedia exhibition devoted to the feline (and canine) purr-suasions, opening Caturday, February 13, 2016. The exhibition is juried by Jason Eppink; curator of Digital Media at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City. The opening will feature the musical stylings of everybody’s favorite feline-inspired band: Lion Cut! Best in Show runs until March 17. Coinciding with this exhibition will be a Dog Portrait and Adoption event, February 20th; Ship Cats: Adventure! Courage! Betrayal!, a lecture by Los Angeles author and photographer Dr. Paul Koudounaris on February 25th; a The Future is Meow: Cat Fashion Show on February 27th; and LOL Cat Gif Workshop with curator Jason Eppink on March 13th. 10% of proceeds from Best in Show will be donated to Four Paws Animal Rescue. We hope you will join us for what are sure to be some of the greatest meowments of our lives.
