Event Description

Visual arts and performing arts converge at MCASD’s new after-hours offering: Downtown at Sundown. On the third Thursday of every month from 5 to 8 PM, local partners Stone Brewing Company, The Flight Path Wine Bar & Bistro, and SDSU Downtown Gallery join MCASD to welcome you to the downtown neighborhood of Core-Columbia. Enjoy free admission and guided tours of exhibitions at MCASD Downtown and SDSU Downtown Gallery, located just one block south of the Museum. Take advantage of $5 drink and appetizer specials at The Flight Path Wine Bar & Bistro and Stone Brewing Company, next door to the Museum on Kettner. At MCASD Downtown, guests will enjoy music by emerging DJs, and performing art events ranging from dance excerpts to music ensembles or spoken word. Join conversation-based tours led by our Gallery Educators at 5:30PM and 6:45 PM, or drop in on Xcerpts—a book club held in our new readingROOM across the street at 1001 Kettner.

Thursdays 6 PM – 10 PM 6-week Session Lead Instructor Patric Stillman Guest instructors include studio artists and professional artists from the communtiy. All skill levels welcome. Introduction to Acrylics is a 6-week workshop series that is paired with Open Paint Night. Each evening starts off with a half hour instruction session and is followed by indiviudal mentored guidance while participants work on their own projects and body of work. The San Diego Art Institute (SDAI) presents The Gearheads series every third Thursday of the month at our Horton Plaza Project Space. Join Jason Begin for an event centered around modular synthesizers on February 18 at 7pm. The Gearheads series invites local musicians, videographers, and programmers to demonstrate their expertise and customized equipment. Artists will discuss the different technology and hardware they utilize, complete with How- and Why-To’s. Special attention will be given to Open-Source software and DIY gear so that tinkerers can implement ideas affordably. Aspiring artists can learn about new tools and repurpose tools already in their belt. Each discussion will be accompanied by a performance by the featured artist. The Gearheads series will take place at San Diego Art Institute’s Horton Plaza Project Space, 324 Horton Plaza, San Diego, CA 92101 at 7pm every third Thursday of the month.
