Mingei International Museum’s Bazaar Under the Stars will take guests into the exotic open-air markets of the Mediterranean, South America, and Southeast Asia. Step into an outdoor shopping experience and explore tents filled with one-of-a-kind jewelry, baskets, textiles, and more treasures from global artisans. With live music, international food, and a cocktail lounge. Event proceeds support the K-12 educational programs and original exhibitions at Mingei International Museum.

Event Description

This year The arcHIVe project and the Alternative Healing Network are joining forces for a “Do Art Daily” challenge… do art, with a theme, every day for 30 days. No matter if it is 5 minutes or 5 hours, the point is to get you working on new works and to help us begin a new dialog within our community about our world and experiences. Our hope? To end HIV. This year’s theme: Together. There is no right or wrong answer, no medium we won't accept, no project too small, no experience required. We simply want to engage you in artistic dialog and include your unique point of view in our attempt to bring greater understanding to our world. Spend a few minutes making a sketch, jotting down a few ideas, grab your brush/markers/pencils and get right to work on your piece. Our hope is to bring a little more art into this world and, hopefully, bring more art with a message. Artists are encouraged to list their pieces for sale with a 15% commission returned to support The arcHIVe project.

“BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL” ART EXHIBIT COMES TO DEL MAR. The Sargent Art Group will unveil its first Invitational Art Exhibit at the Herbert B Turner gallery in Del Mars’ SOUTHFAIR center opening May 7 and running to June 7. Over 37 award winning artist from the surrounding area will display a wide variety of art specially selected for this competition. The Herbert B Turner Gallery is located at 2010 Jimmy Durante Blvd. Del Mar A very special opening reception, including refreshments, and an Art Fair, will be held on May 14 from 1-6pm. At the reception, docents will be conducting tours of the art with stories and artist backgrounds. Potter Karen Fidel, artisan jeweler Linda Melvin, fabric artist Marie Chapian, sculpture Bob Boyd, Chris Simon with Vintage shirts, ceramics by Nancy-Joe Klaphaak; artist Mary Borges, Rosemary Valente, Lynn Ely and Gabrielle Benot will exhibit their original art for sale. Other artist will be set-up around the gallery demonstrating their Art.
