Event Description |
Celebrate Bastille Day at the Athenaeum’s Night Owls on the Seine. Relish French cocktails, delicious baguettes and fromage, and ice-cold bottles of Stone Brewing Co. beer on a warm La Jolla night as you view art from local women artists. Jean Lowe’s art in the Clayes Gallery is a humorous musing on age, perception, and value through real and fictional ephemera such as posters, letters, and newspaper clippings. Adrienne Joy’s expressionistic portraits in the Rotunda develop a psychological connection with strangers from chance encounters and random snapshots. Then head out to the patio to watch real and faux French short films such as La Jetée (1962), which inspired Terry Gilliam’s 1995 film 12 Monkeys, and Henri le Chat Noir, the droll existential musings of a black cat. Join other art and music lovers for a night of haunting French romance. |
