Event Description Distinction Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibit by painter, Mike Bell, entitled "Of Gals & Monsters”. Born and raised at the Jersey Shore - Mike Bell's art blends an aura of nostalgia and humor, combined with vivid color and a combination of influences. Japanese cartoons, classic monsters, vintage toys, punk rock, carnivalesque images, MAD magazine and Big Daddy Roth are among the cultural forces that have shaped his art. The juxtaposition of counter culture imagery with modern day influences are the blueprint for Mike's canvases. Mike’s art has received global acclaim including Ripley’s Believe It Or Not purchasing twenty of his matchbooks to include in various museums. This exhibition will focus on some of Mike’s favorite subjects including Frankenstein and his Bride in a series of hysterical modern day situations as well as some of our favorite pinups including Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page juxtaposed in equally peculiar settings.

Event Description Indigo Dyeing has been utilized across the world for thousands of years. The indigo plant makes a variety of shades of blue, commonly associated with denim. In this four hour workshop you will learn Shibori, the Japanese tradition of folding and manipulating fabrics to make intricate patterns, along with the history and process of indigo dyeing. Students leave the class with several dyed garments like napkins, table cloths, or scarves and the knowledge to continue indigo dyeing from their own home.
