Vaden Versus tells the story of retired World Champion Boxer Paul "The Ultimate" Vaden and the aftermath of his 1999 title fight with Stephan Johnson, who was knocked out unconscious and died 15 days later. Featuring interviews with HBO Boxing's Jim Lampley, this short explores Vaden's emotional struggles after the fight and how he's managed to rediscover his championship form in life.
Paul is San Diego's only locally born professional world boxing champion. Vaden fought his way to one of the best records ever as an amateur fighter and was leading candidate for the 1992 United States Olympic team before turning pro. After retiring from the ring, Vaden has become a nationally prominent motivational speaker, corporate consultant and author. He also serves on the boards of the local Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the National Conflict Resolution Center.
