Event Description This October, Cornelia Feye, former director of arts education at the Athenaeum, presents a series of 4 lectures on 20th century German art. October 24 Lecture: 1933-1945: Entartete Kunst - Degenerate Art In 1937, after confiscating more than 5000 modernist and expressionist paintings, sculptures and graphic works, the Nazi party opened the Degenerate Art exhibition in Munich to educate the public on art that Hitler deemed degenerate, debased and decadent in contrast to the concurrent Great German Art exhibition, which was composed of the idealized representational art preferred by Hitler.

Event Description Join fellow educators and arts advocates for an evening resource fair to enhance your teaching – for free! Learn about educational opportunities at The New Children's Museum, and visit community partner booths with information on school field trips, teacher training, and in-classroom education. The evening will also feature art-making workshops, prizes, and light refreshments while educators and their families explore the Museum’s latest exhibitions. Following the 4-6pm resource fair, educators can optionally attend a post-event presentation from 6-7pm on Social Justice in the Classroom. Host Macedonio Arteaga Jr. will provide educators information on cultural competence and discuss how to create an inclusive curriculum in and outside of the classroom. Admission for educators and their families is free, but be sure to RSVP!

Event Description Art Meets Science - Symbiosis Explored Free Event / Open to the Public/ No RSVP Required Tuesday, October 24, 2017 6PM to 8PM Join Sparks Gallery for an evening of discussion exploring the symbiotic relationship between art and science. Artist Alexandra Hart, whose work is on view from September 30th through December 3rd, and geologist and biologist J. David Archibald, whose research centers on the evolutionary history of mammals and extinction, will engage in a wide ranging discussion plumbing the depths of their respective fields to illuminate and expand upon the themes explored through this vibrant exhibition.
