The Garden is excited that Sammy Lee has agreed to hold a workshop on Joomch, Korean paper felting technique ib November 11th from 11am to 4 pm in the Japanese Friendship Garden Pavilion.Participants will explore array of felting and casting techniques with Hanji (Korean Mulberry paper).You carefully soak Hanji into water, drain the excess and massage it to rid of air pockets. Then you knead, pound, layer, and beat the sheets in order to transform Hanji’s fibers from delicate substrate into a resilient material that as tough as leather, while retaining its beautiful, luminous quality. Felted sheets are beautiful as-is ,or suitable for various art applications. Participants may bring a small object and cast the felted sheets as well. |
