Event Description

Visual Arts Facility Performance Space, VAF 306, UC San Diego / A sound and video installation concerned with activating the imagination and engaging with it as an intervention against Black suffering. This project is a venture into the Utopian, as a reckoning with systems of oppression, and healing and freedom as praxis. / dana washington is a visual artist working in San Diego and Los Angeles who uses film, portraiture, text, and narration to examine history, fiction, and memory. Her video and film works have been shown at the Toronto Film Festival, Filmforum @ MOCA Los Angeles, and the Outfest Fusion LGBT People of Color Film Festival.

Event Description

Visiting artist Allison Renshaw will lead students through the use of a variety of mediums to create personal work for all skill levels. The class will introduce different forms of image transfer and will also explore color, composition, and a variety of formal issues. Students will build skill and confidence and will also uncover personal subject matter while experimenting with content. Allison has had many years of instructing and is excited to challenge students at their experience level. Exposure to other artists working in mixed media is given for students to learn from. Open Studio included: Tuesdays 10:00am - 1:00 PM. Limited to 10 students. Materials Initial materials will be provided by the instructor.
