Resource Description
San Diego International Airport, the busiest single-runway in the United States, is home to an innovative and internationally respected Arts Program. The program reflects the airport’s role as a welcoming gateway to the unique culture and community of the San Diego region and enriches the patron experience through three main areas of focus: Public Art, Performing Arts, and Temporary Exhibitions. Through a 2% allocation of eligible Capital Improvement Project costs, over twenty five (25) large-scale, permanent artworks have been commissioned for the airport’s public art collection. These works are the results of direct artist-design team collaborations, where the artist collaborated with airport designers throughout the entire creative process (concept, design, fabrication, and construction). Such intentional site-specific consideration of the airport environment and patron experience is the hallmark of the Authority’s Arts Program. Ongoing weekly concerts and a reoccurring twelve month residency program for on-site performing artists (the nation’s first such residency at an airport) are features of the Performing Arts component and serve to offer patrons an entertaining, enjoyable, and perhaps unexpected compliment to their travels. The annual Temporary Exhibitions program features thematic exhibitions throughout the terminals, that highlight the work of local artists, collectors, cultural and education organizations.

Opportunity Description
The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority ("Authority") seeks proposals from firms or individuals (“Respondent”) to obtain the professional services required for creating a new Arts Master Plan for San Diego International Airport (“Airport”), while conducting an assessment of the Authority’s Arts Program, policies, and procedures, in order to improve program administration. The Arts Master plan guides the vision of the Arts Program at the airport and identifies short and long term strategies to accomplish its mission. The scope of work will include reviewing the existing Arts Master Plan, updating and identifying new opportunities and sites for arts programming and exhibition (including permanent and temporary artwork as well as mixed-use performance spaces) through physical space planning (including prioritizing relocation and deaccession of existing artwork and commission of new art projects), and in conjunction with the Airport Development Plan (ADP), while assessing existing Authority art policies and procedures in keeping with industry best practices, and following the Authority strategies with a focus on customer, community, and operations priorities. The Arts Master Plan should encompass 1, 2, 5, and 10 year strategic planning. In-depth internal and external stakeholder engagement, including the regional community/general public as well as artists and arts organizations, will be required.
