Opportunity Description
Executive Director - Space 4 Art The next Executive Director of Space 4 Art will join the organization at a critical time its 10-year history - preparing to move to a permanent home. For the last 7 years, Space 4 Art (a 501-c-3) has been located in 3 rented warehouses in East Village, San Diego, California. Over 40 artists have affordable work studios and 6 have affordable work/live space. Large and diverse audiences have been attracted to over 84 art openings in the facilities' galleries and over 100 performances on the outdoor stage and indoor venues. Over the past 4 years, Space 4 Art has developed an innovative educational program working with King-Chavez High School and HighTechHigh Chula Vista. " The "STEAM to the STREETS" program uses art and design as the foundation for design/build community projects, a unique educational program serving underserved San Diego high school students. Position Summary Space 4 Art's Executive Director needs to be a visionary thinker who will build on the organization's grassroots in the San Diego arts community while maintaining stable and sustainable programs as the organization moves to a new physical location. The position requires excellent management, organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively with the San Diego art community and a wide range of stakeholders. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects and activities at Space 4 Art and maintaining sound fiscal and operating management of the organization while providing the executive leadership necessary to set and meet organizational goals. Responsibilities Include Working closely with the board of directors to provide information while achieving operating and program goals as outlined in the strategic plan Fiscal management including budget preparation, adherence to budget, development of fundraising sources including grants/foundation income, sponsorships, institutions and individual giving Enhancement of organization's image by an active and visible presence in the community, including web and engagement pathways, and close working relationships with professional, civic and private organizations Oversee committees and volunteers, organizing art exhibits, performances and events at Space 4 Art Oversee management of work/live and studio rental units Work closely with staff maintaining community outreach programs including "STEAM to the STREETS" and promote use of Space 4 Art for community events Identify, cultivate, solicit and manage organizational partnerships, business sponsorships and individual sponsorships Oversee a capital campaign toward funding, building and opening a new permanent facility Staff and volunteer management, including hiring, review and retention of qualified personnel Qualities and Qualifications Imagination, vision and leadership in supporting and guiding the organization's mission. Committed and passionate about the organization's mission, its cultural and educational programs and community development Understanding of nonprofit funding community and/or experience in an art related field is preferred Experience in fundraising, including demonstrated success in grant writing, event planning, donor management, sponsorship and solicitation of major gifts Excellence in organizational management with particular emphasis on being a hands-on leader Strong marketing and public relations skills Exceptional written, oral and presentation skills Minimum education -- Bachelor's degree in a creative field.
