Event Description Join us and raise a glass to an art loving community! The Contemporary Thinkers Social Mixer is an intimate evening where new voices and well-seasoned art enthusiasts collide, bringing together creatives, collectors, and curious minds from across the San Diego arts scene into our cultural home. This limited-capacity social mixer celebrates art in its many forms through poetry readings, music, and shared presence. Through spoken word, soulful soundscapes, and thoughtfully curated moments, guests are invited to experience art as something not just simply observed, but lived and felt.

Event Description Join us on Thursday, February 12 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for a tour of Staying Power in the University Art Gallery with guest curator, Barbara Paris Gifford. The opening reception will follow, where artists will be in attendance. Barbara Paris Gifford is Senior Curator of Contemporary Art, Craft, and Design at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York City. She oversees MAD’s renowned jewelry collection and has helped organize over twenty exhibitions in all craft mediums. Most recently, she presented Out of the Jewelry Box (2024-6), an exhibition and catalogue exploring the intersection of Queerness and contemporary jewelry, and Douriean Fletcher: Jewelry of the Afrofuture (2025-6). An expert in jewelry and fashion, she has written and presented on these subjects for numerous publications and venues. Gifford holds an MA in Decorative Arts, Design History, and Material Culture from the Bard Graduate Center, NY.
