| Event Description |
Join us 12 - 3 PM on Saturday, 2/28 for a free public receptin of “Common Ground: A Convergence on Abstraction”.
The “Common Ground” exhibition showcases the highly acclaimed work of San Diego artists Lucas Smith, Anuj "AJ" Jenveja, and Priyanka Pathak in a curated group exhibition at Village Arts Outreach (aka Gallery 21) in Spanish Village, Balboa Park.
The artists present abstraction as a shared visual language, while approaching the act of creation from their unique perspectives, the three foster a convergence within their work through layered compositions, spatial awareness, and a balance between control and intuition.
By presenting these artists together, the works collectively illuminate how abstraction can bridge differences, revealing the ties that connect us all.
The exhibition is on display at Village Arts Outreach (Gallery 21) from February 24th – March 9th from 11 AM – 4 PM daily, or by private appointment.

| Event Description |
Spanning nearly five decades of artistic production, Full Circle—The Teachings and Her Legacy is a comprehensive examination of Faith Ringgold’s multidisciplinary practice. Born in Harlem in 1930, Ringgold emerged from the Black Arts Movement and became a pioneering voice in American art through her integration of autobiography, social and political activism, and techniques traditionally associated with women’s craft. The exhibition is framed conceptually through Ringgold’s relationship to UC San Diego, where she served as professor of visual arts from 1984 to 2002. This institutional affiliation provides a lens for understanding how her academic philosophy materialized throughout her practice and impacted not only those she mentored at UC San Diego, but generations of artists around the world. |

On view Feb. 9 - March 5. This powerful intergenerational exhibition of Chicana portraiture brings together artists from Los Angeles and San Diego to explore identity, memory, activism, and healing through the human figure. Blending contemporary realities with ancestral memory, these figurative works honor matriarchal lineages, personal narratives, and an enduring commitment to social justice. Originally curated Sybil Venegas for Avenue 50 Studio in Los Angeles, this exhibition includes artists from different generations—Baby Boomers, Gen X and Millennials. The expanded presentation in San Diego includes local artists Marianela de la Hoz, Katie Ruiz, and Ale Ruiz Tostado, presenting their work alongside their Angeleno counterparts. Intrinsically connected to Mexico and the border, cultural influences are evident in these artists’ paintings, which align with the legacy of Chicano art while also paying tribute to long-standing Latin American traditions of magical realism and folk art. |
