Event Description Speaker: Michael James Rocha, Union Tribune • Arts & Entertainment Editor

Free to public; Seating first-come, first serve

Michael James Rocha will speak on arts coverage in San Diego. The presentation will include explaining what journalists do and why certain stories are better than others.

For over twenty years, Michael James Rocha has worked with The San Diego Union Tribune. As arts and entertainment editor, he oversees pop music, classical music, visual art, theater, dance, things to do and dinner coverage. He is a founding member of the Asian American Journalist Association San Diego chapter and previously taught journalism at Point Loma Nazarene University.

This presentation is offered as part of The Studio Door's Artist Almanac 2019. The Studio Door continues its collaborative spirit by bringing together some of San Diego art authorities to speak and teach. Local art authorities from different fields will share their knowledge with artists and patrons while some of the regions best art instructors will offer specialty workshops to highlight the classes that they offer in other parts of the region. This is a fantastic opportunity to get in on a variety of creative courses, professional development talks and social gatherings that bring together like minded creatives.

Event Description Nails have been a path to artistic expression for thousands of years, evolving from a single nail color to works of art on a tiny canvas, thanks to the invention of nail enhancements and the emergence of nail artistry. First finding its home on the global fashion runways, nail artistry has become a sought-after form of self-expression in everyday life. Today’s nail art is an homage to best in class color and design, with chic lines and sophisticated enhancements personal to the individual. Tiny Canvases: The Art of Nails celebrates the 40th anniversary of Creative Nail Design (CND™), started by Oceanside chemist, dentist, and inventor Dr. Stuart S. Nordstrom out of his garage in 1979. Beginning with the invention of a safe patented cross-linked polymer resin product for creating beautiful, lasting nail enhancements, CND™ is now the most technologically advanced company in the global nail Industry.
