Event Description |
Clothes Story, envisioned and curated by Atlanta based designer Kenneth Green. This exhibition celebrates the lives and contributions of African American women by carefully replicating over thirty garments and fashion accessories that represent what women wore in historical periods ranging from 1890 to 1963. Every dress, coat or cloak in Clothes Story has a unique story to tell, whether revealing details about the maker, providing information about the historical context or teaching us about the person who wore it. Through fashion, the narratives shared in this exhibition come alive. The exhibit is on view August 25 - October 16, 2025. The engaging display takes the viewer on a journey through time, inviting them to experience women’s lives at home and in their communities and capturing historical moments that showcase the African American female experience and acknowledge their resilience, strength, bravery, courage, and unapologetic spirit for change. With appreciation to The Hervey Family Fund at the San Diego Foundation. |

Event Description |
This 8-week workshop style course introduces students to a popular and fun printmaking technique of silk screen. Students will create vibrant, multicolor prints using water-based silk-screen materials while exploring their own style and applying this popular method to their own imagery. The direct-on-screen stencil techniques, such as screen filler/drawing fluid or wax crayon, as well as indirect photo-emulsion methods of drawing on Mylar, will be shown; digital file preparation will be explored. A stencil monotype printing and mixed-media approaches will be covered. Students will learn how to set up their own DIY studio and will learn all aspects of preparation, setup, and production of fine art prints.
Materials: Ink and studio materials will be provided. Students are responsible for paper and screen frames. No prior experience with printmaking is necessary.
