Event Description Friday, August 12, 2022 9:00 am - 3:00 pm / It is said that dark times are auspicious for spiritual development. How can this be so? When times are good we can be lulled into forgetting what is important. When we are challenged as by this pandemic, the climate crisis, the polarization in our country, or by personal loss, we may have a longing to grow in wisdom and compassion. This begins with self-compassion and the deep desire to know our own minds. In this day together we will look at the path laid down by the Buddha for recognizing our inherent and indestructible capacity to open to whatever life is presenting to us. Please join us for this quiet Day of Mindfulness in the healing gardens of the Center for Creative Renewal. We will have guided sitting and walking meditations, make art and walk the labyrinth. Bring your lunch, coffee and tea will be provided. Registration and information: https://www.artretreats.com/events/day-of-mindfulness-5

Event Description Pop Smoke: A Veteran Art Exhibition is a survey of veteran artists who utilize bright colors, basic shapes, commonplace images, or repetitive means of production within their art making practice. Several early Pop Movement artists served in the armed forces during WWII and the Korean War, including Roy Lichtenstein, Jasper Johns, and Richard Artschwager. This exhibition is a nod to those early veteran pop artists as we turn our attention to veteran artists who continue to use similar moods. By exploring veteran art making practices in ways that are playful, tongue in cheek and ironic, we consider the many different forms and artistic tones that poignant artistic expression can take. We also examine the multitudes of the veteran artist identity: Who is a veteran artist? And what is veteran art? The exhibition's title is a military slang term referring to throwing smoke grenades as a means of cover or escape during battle. The term "pop smoke" is also common slang that means "to leave
