Event Description

Against the backdrop of an increasingly endangered planet, this exhibit centers on the recognition that we have entered into the “Anthropocene”—a new geologic era marked by the impact of human activity on the earth. Borrowing from the language of dance, this exhibit explores the inextricable and conflicting relationship between the human body and the gravity of our footprint on the environment. Working in a variety of media from painting to performance to video, these works express the hope that art can point the way to a more ecologically sustainable future. Event Description

The Sewn Boards Binding was developed by Gary Frost in the early 80’s. It connects back to the earliest form of the codex binding. This binding gets its name from the construction process of the boards, they are laced in, not cased. A thicker card folio is sewn onto the outer sections to function as the book’s boards/covers or book boards can be inserted into the folio. In this workshop students will learn how to work with common bookbinding tools, materials, understanding grain direction, folding signatures, and French link sewing. We are holding a closing reception for Informal Arrangements, a solo exhibition featuring new works by local multidisciplinary artist and designer, Daniel Hicks. "Initially conceived as a series of personal design exercises, the eighteen "Informal Arrangements" compiled for this show utilize an assortment of found, printed, and repurposed materials (corrugated castaways, acrylic accidentals, print scraps, vintage film cartridges, etc.) to develop a range of abstract/geometric compositional concepts." - Daniel Hicks Self-taught, Daniel spent two decades navigating the margins as a freelance graphic designer, operating primarily within the underground music and art scene, which he has interacted with and participated in since the late 1980s. Having transitioned away from client-based projects as of 2017, Daniel now focuses on further refining a purely nonrepresentational visual language that he applies to both his art and design projects. Event Description

Clay Walker (1924 – 2008) is a master of diverse art media (oil paintings, watercolors, drawings and sculptures), but in printmaking (woodcuts, linocuts, etchings, serigraphs and mixed media) he found his niche in the contemporary art world. Clay Walker was born in Kentucky. From Ohio, to Texas, to California – Orange County, then Escondido for forty years, until his passing - his art career flourished. Walker’s passion was creating his artworks, with teaching art as a secondary focus. His concern was not for commercial success but to retain his integrity as an artist. Walker’s work has been displayed minimally since the late 1960s. In 2009, Meyer Fine Art, Inc. had the first solo exhibition for Walker in 40 years. The gallery has continued to display Clay Walker’s art in solo or group shows. The bottom line is that Mid-Modern art and design are still popular because they are timeless. Clay Walker epitomizes the Mid-Modern artist.
