Event Description The German Case Binding is one in which the text block is “cased in” between a front and a back cover, that is constructed with covered boards and a spine. In this workshop you will be guided through the steps of creating a cased in book. Students will learn how to work with common bookbinding tools, materials, understanding grain direction, folding signatures, making headbands, and French link sewing. We will be providing blank journals or you can bring your existing journal or sketchbook. You’ll experiment with creative techniques and prompts to take your journaling practice to the next level! About the artist: Sierra Aguilar, aka Stardust Coyote, is a multidisciplinary artist and art educator. She works mostly with collage, re-contextualizing imagery to tell new stories. Event Description Oolong Gallery is pleased to present our third and final group show of the six month launch starting last June. Rivers and Mountains appropriates the historic 1962 poetry book by John Ashbery not only for its brilliant cover by Michael Peters, but also to emphasize poetic boldness, nature, and lines running through the show. Oolong has launched with a range of art mediums, styles, and content but puts the non-linear reception to art first over politic and market values. What better form to shine light on than contemporary art photography itself, universally discounted as secondary work to painting (don’t miss Wolfgang Tillmans at MOMA). Rivers and Mountains is essentially an earth inspired photo and sculpture show, with some masterful digressions into relief work, collage, video, and an addendum of smaller paintings from southern Chile near Patagonia.
