Event Description Saturday, March 4, 2023 9:00 am - 5:00 pm // Join Grace in creating a small basket made from Long Leaf pine needles, using Crawford waxed Irish linen, small beads, and a stone center. This meditative process produces a beautiful and useful product. As Grace states: “I love artwork that uses natural materials. It provides a break from the modern era, and creates a grounding sense of things past.” You will learn about: ~ Differences between pine needle types ~ Preparing the needles ~ Waxed Irish linen ~ Basket centers ~ Embellishing your basket ~ How to start and how to finish your basket Presenter: Grace Swanson Growing up in Nigeria gave Grace a unique exposure to the creation of useful everyday items using the natural materials that were readily available. She received her Graphic Arts Degree from SDSU, pursued a career as a graphic artist, and was a botanical watercolorist before discovering her passion for gourd and pine needle art.

Event Description R.B. Stevenson Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of “Recent Work from the Studio” an exhibition of recent paintings by San Diego artist Ricardo Xavier. Originally from Brazil this is the second solo exhibition for Ricardo Xavier. Also, the artist has been included in numerous group shows at the gallery since 2014. The show opens with a reception for the artist on Saturday March 4th from 5 – 8pm and will remain on view through March 25, 2023. Xavier’s paintings are complicated and rewarding. Abstract in the densest sense, flat geometric forms hover amidst art deco curls, twirls and embellishments. Color reigns supreme and even though the shapes may or may not be familiar, the play of color, form and shape take precedence over any reality real or imagined.
