Event Description Pradip Malde (b. 1957, Tanzania) is a photographer and professor at the University of the South, Sewanee in Tennessee. His practice as an artist is firmly centered around the experience of loss and how it serves as a catalyst for regeneration. Having been raised in Arusha, Tanzania, Malde became a refugee in 1972, eventually settling in the United Kingdom with his family. His personal experience of displacement continues to influence his photographic practice, visible in this most recent project in which he returned to his native Tanzania after 46 years. His exhibition "From Where Loss Comes" is on view in the Fine Art Gallery, Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, University of San Diego. On February 29, 2024, Malde will be speaking on his practice as an artist and photographer, as well as his exhibition on view at USD.
