Event Description |
As painters, we need to know basic color theory and color mixing to make our work look vibrant and alive. In this class we will explore the four basic ideas behind color and the ways we mix and make it all work for successful paintings. We will deal with primary colors, building blocks for all hues; secondary colors, created from two primary colors; and tertiary colors, formed by mixing a primary and a secondary—as well as hue, value, and color temperature.
Our class will create color studies using the classic color wheel. This is about color and color relationships in our compositions. We will do a color study and then a full painting from that study—for example, making a green color chart, then making a painting in greens, or a color chart in earth tones, then a painting in earth tones.
There are new exercises for painters who have taken this class in the past. Come join us; all levels are welcome. Let’s explore this informative and exciting subject! |

Event Description |
Experience a durational performance by exhibiting artist JoaquÃn Stacey-Calle in Gallery Two of the Center Museum.
The artist will run the distance of a bread. A performance that tackles the construct of time, orientation in space, landscape representation, and the boundaries of the body from the lens of water. When we ask for a distance, we’ll probably get an answer in units of time instead of length because time implies energy and ties it back to the body. The artist explores this idea by using bread as a timer for an unknown distance within a confined space. |

Event Description |
Learn the process of cyanotype printing with Belen Torralba in this hands-on workshop in the Museum’s new Community Art Lab!
The cyanotype process is one of the oldest photographic printmaking processes to still exist. Unlike other photographic printing processes, cyanotypes use iron salt solutions and UV rays to create permanent prints. Easily recognized by their iconic blue tones, cyanotypes have been used by architects, engineers and photographers as a way to easily reproduce prints.
This workshop is an introduction to cyanotype printing and will cover how to prepare an iron salt solution, how to prepare paper and fabric for printing, an overview of creating digital negatives, exposure times, washing and toning prints, and proper drying methods.
Recommended for all ages and abilities. |
