Event Description |
LEARN HOW TO CREATE AMAZING PRINTS WITHOUT A PRESS
Experience the joy and immediacy of “pulling” an encaustic monotype from a heated encaustic palette. You’ll draw with pigmented wax and incorporate spontaneous mark making that will ignite your creativity and intuition. The results are astonishing and rewarding.
Additional techniques including stenciling, stamping and blocking will be explored. Whether used as a primary body of work or combined with mixed media, collage or book arts, encaustic monotypes offer endless possibilities for today’s artist. No prior experience in encaustic painting or printmaking is necessary, however some experience with encaustic is preferred.
Demos and discussion include:
How different types of paper react to wax and pigment
How temperature affects the print’s outcome
The various effects using encaustic medium and pigment
Layering color
How to use other materials including India ink, pastel, oil sticks, graphite into your work

Event Description |
Fredric Hope "Silent Storytellers" on view February 7 through June 28
Growing up by the sea and observing Southern California’s shores and seasonal cycles for decades, regional artist Fredric Hope’s work brilliantly celebrates the beauty of nature’s artistry, refracted through memory, in a unique form of visual and emotional archaeology. Hope’s distinct approach expands Southern California painting traditions that invite us to interpret silent stories, and contemplate the visual whispers of time, place, and the increasing vulnerability of coastal regions.

Event Description |
OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, February 7, 2025 5-8PM
During the opening reception, several of the artists will speak about their personal practice and the insights gained from creating collaborative work.
The exhibition ’Touchpoints’, highlights the transformative potential of collaborative art making as explored through the student-led seminar DISCO, created and facilitated by MFA candidate Darby Simmons at Claremont Graduate University. In this seminar, artists initiated individual artworks and passed them to fellow participants, with each piece evolving through the contributions of the group. The result is a dynamic collection of works embodying shared creative processes, innovation, and collective imagination. To complement these collaborative pieces, the exhibition will also feature one individual work from each artist, providing insight into their personal practices and sparking dialogue on the interplay between individual and collective creation. |

Event Description |
Opening Reception Friday Feb 7 from 6—8pm
Oolong Gallery is pleased to present Gilded Age, a solo exhibition by San Diego artist Amy Pachowicz. Through a series of evocative botanical paintings and large and small-scale collages, Pachowicz explores themes of nostalgia, impermanence, desire, death and sensuality, as well as the dissonance between personal memory and the larger world’s turbulence.
Pachowicz’s delicate botanical renderings depict fragments of life—branches, feathers, and leaves—suspended in rich fields of color, relics of the natural world that once pulsed with vitality but now exist as remnants of what was. The artist grapples with the tension between artistic creation and the realities of global suffering, reflecting on what it means to live and create amid conflict and loss. |
