Event Description Friday, May 21 10:00 a.m. PT Speaker: Anne Helmreich, Ph.D., Associate Director, Digital Initiatives at the Getty Research Institute Established in New York City in the 1840s, M. Knoedler & Co. grew to become one of the most significant art dealers in the US. A major player in the metropolis, Knoedler extended its network to Europe, eventually launching branches in Paris and London. This online talk explores Knoedler’s formative years, drawing on the unique resources of the Knoedler Gallery Archives held by the Getty Research Institute. The audience will have a chance to learn what it took to become a successful commercial art dealer in America’s Gilded Age and how the US art market was tightly linked to Europe. Participants will also have a chance to see how scholars of the art market are using both traditional research approaches and new digital tools to bring the past to light. Register now to save your spot. Space is limited.
