The paintings of Beverly McIver often feature those closest to her, such as her mother or sister. The artist has said that her pictures of others are still self-portraits: "I use the faces of others who reflect my most inner being." One of McIver's works is included in Young Art 2013, and Raising Renee chronicles the artist's struggle with and nourishment she receives from her family.
Before the film, Jennifer Dasal, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art at the North Carolina Museum of Art, will present a lecture entitled Reflections: Portraits by Beverly McIver.
