Event Description Lux Art Institute, San Diego’s interactive art destination, hosts its monthly Lux @ Night - an evening of cocktails, art and merriment, amidst Lux’s four-acre site that overlooks the San Elijo Lagoon and an expansive wildlife preserve that stretches to the Pacific Ocean. While enjoying music and refreshments, guests can view artist Julie Heffernan’s exhibit and her newly finished work, Self-Portrait as Another Growth, completed while in residency at Lux. Heffernan’s highly detailed self-portraits combine layered imagery and a refined Renaissance technique. She herself is the centerpiece - a female goddess clothed in ballooning skirts of feathers, bubbles, flowers and animal skins. At Lux, visitors don’t just see art, they “see art happen,” for an interactive art experience. Artists live and work on site, while producing a commissioned work of art. Throughout the year, Lux invites significant regional, national, and international artists to participate in the Lux residency and encourages visitors from across the country to observe and engage with them.
