The Ordover Gallery is pleased to announce a show of three new bodies of work by Donna Cosentino. Simple Pleasures explores man-made objects found in the landscape, Recent Journeys encompasses desert imagery, and Garden Tales includes images from Cosentino’s garden as well as parks, such as Balboa Park. Cosentino says, “Often in my wanderings I step into a moment or a place and fall completely and utterly in love with what is before me. It is not a fickle love…it is enduring…the kind one wishes for in a good relationship but often escapes having. And so this obsession not found in my heart’s love is found in my photography…and it lasts from first seeing through to placing on the wall and then long afterward.”
Donna Cosentino has been an integral part of San Diego’s photographic community for many years. She is currently a photography professor at Palomar Community College in San Marcos. She has been a volunteer docent at MOPA for over fifteen years, was the director of The Photographer's Gallery in Escondido, and worked as a photojournalist at the Times Advocate in San Diego County. Further information and images by Donna Cosentino can be found at http://www.ordoverproject.com/DonnaCosentino/portfolio01/index.html
The Ordover Gallery will also feature Sharon Anthony’s photographic series, A Passion for Birds. Anthony photographs native and migrating birds in Southern California, including the colorful Wood Duck, the Great Egret, and the California Brown Pelican with its brilliant mating plumage. Anthony captures graceful images of the birds in flight, as well as intimate portraits, and group behaviors. Regarding her work, she says, “After returning from a day of photographing wild birds, I’m always left with a sense of peace and harmony, and a deep appreciation of Nature, which I can only hope will translate to those who view my photographs.”
Anthony’s passion for photographing birds began over four years ago. Since then she has primarily focused on the birds of the Batiquitos Lagoon, in Carlsbad, CA. Anthony carefully studies the light, tides and seasons to determine the best times to photograph the different species. Always conscious of the direction of the sunlight, Anthony often waits for a glint of light to illuminate the birds’ feathers and eyes. Sharon Anthony’s bird imagery can also be seen at http://www.ordoverproject.com/SharonAnthony/portfolio.html.
In addition to the featured photography of Donna Cosentino and Sharon Anthony, work will be shown by: Lew Abulafia, John D. Clark, Lakshmi Grace Douglas, Peter Fay, Heidi Fickinger, Lou Montrose, Art Myers, Abe Ordover, Lisa Ross, Tom O Scott and Blake Shaw.
The Ordover Gallery’s Solana Beach location is at the south end of the Cedros Design District at 444 South Cedros Avenue, Studio 172. The phone number is 858-720-1121.
