Event Description Lux Art Institute, the 2008 recipient of the San Diego Architectural Foundation's top design award, hosts its monthly Lux @ Night – a free evening of art, wine, live music, and merriment—amidst Lux’s five-acre site that overlooks the San Elijo Lagoon and an expansive wildlife preserve that stretches to the Pacific Ocean. The festive event is sponsored by Supervisor Pam Slater-Price and the County of San Diego, and the City of Encinitas Community Grant Program and the Mizel Family Foundation. Join Lux on Wednesday, July 15, from 7-9pm and enjoy a glass of wine, conversation, live music, and an opportunity to view Derrick Guild’s work. This exhibit at Lux is Guild’s first on the West Coast and showcases the Scottish artist’s playful and contemporary twist on European traditions of trompe l’oeil and the “kitchen still life.” During his residency at Lux, he created a large-scale equestrian “label painting” based on a work of 17th-century Spanish master, Diego Velazquez, which will also be on display. At this Lux@Night, in partnership with Sezio, Lux is proud to present, LIVE, indie rock/folk band, TROUBLE IN THE WIND. At Lux, visitors don’t just see art, they “see art happen,” for an interactive art experience. Artists live and work on site, while producing a commissioned work of art. Throughout the year, Lux invites significant regional, national, and international artists to participate in the Lux residency and encourages visitors from across the country to observe and engage with them. PLEASE NOTE: There will be no Lux@Night in August. Lux@Night will resume in September with the start of the 2009-2010 Season. $5 suggested donation. THIS IS A 21 & OVER EVENT.
