Join us Sunday, August 2nd from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. for our continuing memorial tile painting family art project at Free Family Art Day. Discover a touching story of courage, tolerance and faith in the exhibition Fabric of Survival: The Art of Esther Nisenthal Krinitz. Esther’s experience surviving the Holocaust in Poland as a teenager inspired her to create a series of thirty-six appliqué and embroidered panels that comprise the exhibition. After viewing Fabric of Survival children will be given a tile to paint their thoughts and feelings about the Holocaust and the exhibition. Docents will be available to guide families through the exhibition providing more information about the artwork. The folk art style of the panels is a gentle way of recounting an important story of human history that is easy for children to understand.
Bring the whole family to Free Family Art Day on August 2nd. All tile painting materials are provided, no painting experience is necessary. The completed tiles will be mounted on a wall in the museum for the duration of the exhibition as a memorial to the Holocaust. Children will be able to collect their tiles after October 25, 2009.
