Event Description The August 6th San Dieguito Art Guild Demonstration will feature a well-known local artist, Ron Lemen. The demonstration to be held in the Ecke Building at Quail Botanical Gardens on August 6th from 1:30 to 3:30 pm will focus on sketching in oil and using the medium as a sketching tool to make quick indications under short spans of time. Ron’s presentation will include simplifying the subject down to its abstraction, using value to push the color and illusion of light and brushwork when quickly painting. Ron Lemen is a dedicated artist and instructor who has worked in several different arenas of art, from representational and fine art to illustration and entertainment art. In addition to his work as a freelance artist and commissioned painter, Ron has a strong and extensive background in art instruction. He and his wife Vanessa own Studio 2nd Street and they both teach traditional and digital drawing and painting classes. They have developed a solid place in the community of Encinitas, participating in a variety of local art events held throughout the year. Ron is also a member of the Encinitas City Council’s Arts Commission. For more information about Ron and the Studio 2nd Street art classes, visit: studio2ndstreet.com. Please join the San Dieguito Art Guild from 1:30 to 3:30 pm on August 6, 2009 for Ron Lemen’s demonstration at the Ecke Building at Quail Botanical Gardens, 230 Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas. Opening Days THURSDAY, AUGUST 6, 2009
Event Description Lux Art Institute's Summer Art Camp for kids will culminate in an open house and artists’ reception—to showcase the work of camp participants—in Lux’s Artist Pavilion on THURSDAY, AUGUST 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. Participants can invite parents and friends to see their finished work in a museum setting. At Lux’s Summer Art Camp, kids made art, talked to real artists and learned about how they create their work. Located on Lux’s five-acre site overlooking the San Elijo Lagoon in Encinitas, the summer art program was led by Lux’s education staff and included guest speakers and nature walks. The camp allowed kids to experiment with painting, sculpture, and photography, as well as collaborate on group art activities, explore the Lux landscape and installations, and view art in the Lux studio. The focus of Summer Art Camp is not technical instruction, but creative experimentation and exposure to a variety of materials and processes.
