Join us for an evening of lively Jewish folk music of Eastern Europe and songs of the Yiddish musical theatre by the Second Avenue Klezmer Ensemble on Sunday, August 16th at 4:00 p.m. Their repertoire encompasses traditional Klezmer music, shers, bulgars, horas, freylakhs and waltzes. It also includes Cantorial, Ladino and Israeli pieces. Klezmer music not only draws on centuries-old Jewish traditions, but also incorporates sounds from Gypsy music, Eastern European folk music, French Cafe music and early jazz.
Based in San Diego, the Ensemble is a five member group dedicated to performing Jewish music. Soprano Deborah Davis specializes in singing in Yiddish, Ladino and Hebrew. Robert Zelickman often amazes audiences with his mastery of three clarinets, including the sonorous bass. Guitarist Jiri Svoboda, renowned Bassist Bertram Turetzky and drummer Bob Weller complete the Ensemble's thrilling musical core.
Admission to the concert is at the door, $15 or $10 for OMA members. There are no reservations for this festival seating event. In addition to the concert guests will have the opportunity to view the exhibitions, FABRIC OF SURVIVAL: The Art of Esther Nisenthal Krinitz, and Delayed Gratification by Dave Ghilarducci.
