The Grossmont College Hyde Art Gallery is proud to present “Ceramic Works” by Patsy Cox and Eric Rempe. The exhibition is divided into two distinctive parts. The first room is filled with singular objects by Rempe. The second room contains an expansive installation by Cox.
The work of Patsy Cox consists of thousands of small objects combined to form one large installation. This latest installation by the artist is based on her perspective on the “mass” and “mix” of cultures and individuals in Los Angeles. . .”overwhelming” in their essence (the city and this installation), the components, “cross-pollinating”, appearances in art and in real life . . .a curiosity with the whole notion of blending, mutating, and hybridizing.
Eric Rempe shows a beautiful array of ceramic vessels for our enjoyment. The artist has created a virtuosos’ exhibition of wonderful glazes, textures, and shapes, making for very accessible work. As Rempe says, “making strong functional pieces that become part of someone’s life is an underlying motivation” for him. This follows that the balance of form and function are exemplified in all of his work.
