Looking at the art works of Taylor Marie Prendergast conjures up images of an art professional in the mature stages of their career. On the contrary, Prendergast is only 19 years old, and on Friday, March 26th she will be showcasing her fourth exhibition, Self-Explosion.
Prendergast’s follow-up exhibition will be located in beautiful La Jolla, California, at Galeria JAN, located on 1250 Prospect St. Suite B21, and will feature new works from Prendergast created in 2009 and 2010. The opening reception for Self-Explosion will be held Friday, March 26th from 6PM until 9PM, and the exhibiting works will be on display until Sunday, April 11th, 2010.
Prendergast has taken a distinct turn from her expressive figurative styles that were featured in the January 2009 exhibition, “Hommage a Egon Schiele”, and has transgressed to an increasingly lyrical aesthetic all her own. In her latest works, Prendergast combines a palette of cool colors to evoke an emotional intensity growing within her. Prendergast is best known for her provocative expressions detailed ever so distinctly in her works.
Studying under the instruction of Joze Ciuha on the island of Shipan in Crotia, Prendergast has expanded not only on her technical abilities over the past few years, but also her heightened sense of undaunted self-expression. What is exquisite about Prendergast’s work is that the mixed-media pieces she creates have a voice all their own, absent of the markers of restrictive cannons of art. Prendergast states that her new stage of art making has allowed her to “explode myself in a sense”. |
