Event Description The full-day workshop, called will present professional-development seminars filled with career-building skills for visual artists, including valuable tools, tips, resources, best practices, and networking suggestions. Presenters from the San Diego and Los Angeles areas will conduct the workshop for emerging and established artists. Karen Atkinson, an artist, curator, collaborator, and founder of GYST, will offer a luncheon keynote on “Hybrid Careers.” Workshop topics include: “It’s All about You”; “Marketing Yourself to Market Your Art”; “Show Me the Money”; and “Getting Your House in Order to Do Business.” Opportunities for group networking will begin and end the workshop. A light breakfast and lunch are included for participants, and a post-workshop reception will take place from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. Event Description Art lovers and their families are invited to Lux Art Institute’s Free Saturday on October 2. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., guests will enjoy an open house with free admission, studio tours, refreshments and live music by San Diego songwriter/musician Aaron Bowen. In the Lux Classroom, visitors will be invited to create sugar sculptures in the style of Australian-born resident artist Timothy Horn. Lux Liaisons will guide visitors through the studio where they will be able to view Horn’s stunning sculpture fabricated from unusual materials such as rock sugar, rubber, blown glass and various metals. Guests will also be able to see the commissioned piece that Horn will be working on while in residence at Lux. Lux, San Diego’s interactive art destination, is dedicated to encouraging the artistic curiosity of guests of all ages. Lux’s programs include the new Kids-in-Residence (in-depth, after-school art classes), “Studio Series” (guest speakers share their perspective about current exhibits through commentary and discussion), Luxcursions (classroom fieldtrips to Lux,) the Valise Project, (portable museums presented to schools throughout San Diego,) Summer Art Camp, Lux@Night and Free Saturday. Lux Art Institute is located at 1550 South El Camino Real in Encinitas. Parking for Free Saturday is available in the Sanderling-Waldorf School parking lot and in posted parking zones along El Camino Real.
