Event Description ALL THAT REMAINS Featuring: Melissa Beck, John Dillemuth, Amber Odhner, Vincent Robles and Micajah Truitt November 11 – December 12, 2010 Objects that were once our prized possessions in our childhood have become tattered and torn. Tools that were once used to build our lives are now broken and useless. These objects fade over time but still in their dilapidated state are capable of conjuring up strong memories that gradually become more meaningful with age. Even when childhood memories are pleasant, there is always lingering darkness attached when contemplating the loss of innocence that has occurred as time progresses. “All That Remains” explores these delicate connections in an exhibition that blurs the lines between youthful fantasy and the reality of adult recollection. “All That Remains” features work from emerging artists Melissa Beck and Vincent Robles and more established artists John Dillemuth, Amber Odhner and Micajah Truitt. These five artists will take you on a journey through memories and emotions as you uncover all that remains November 11 – December 12, 2010 at SUSHI Performance and Visual Arts. Curated by The San Diego Mesa College’s Museum Studies Advanced Class, the group includes Jeff Howell, Libby Kiser, Virginia Longfellow, Ken Nielson, Nicole Osorio and Tracey Schmechel. This program provides theory, instruction and practical experience in all aspects of design and installation of art exhibitions. It is also designed to give an overview of the history, functions and operations of art galleries and museums. Event Description November 18th 5 – 9 pm Artists Melissa Beck, Vincent Robles, John Dillemuth, Amber Odhner and Micajah Truitt explore the delicate connections between nostalgia and memories featuring artwork that blurs the lines between youthful fantasy and the reality of adult recollection. Melissa Beck’s work explores the memories that are associated with familiar objects. John Dillemuth takes everyday objects and turns them into ethereal ghostly remnants of what they once were. Amber Odhner’s paintings explore empty spaces and the memories they contain. Vincent Robles is a found object artist whose work prominently features garden implements and a nod to other creatures. Micajah Truitt is a prolific artist who explores the freedom and life that objects obtain. Curated by San Diego Mesa College’s Museum Studies Program, the institution’s program teaches students the principles of developing and curating art exhibits, show installation, production of graphic and publication materials, theories of exhibition, the educational purpose of museums and galleries, audiences and social contexts and the purpose and value of public art and museums without walls.
