Event Description The year’s first exhibition at Susan Street Fine Art, “- is +, new abstracts,” is an exquisite look at complexity in simplicity. Los Angeles based artists, Jay McCafferty and Miguel Osuna, lead us into the mesmerizing world of idiosyncratic detail using magnifying lenses, solar heat, paper, ballpoint pens, resin and canvas. Reducing their work down to the essential qualities of light, space, form and the detail of material, each artist creates an impression of there being something invisible within.

Event Description

Featuring a sophisticated, evening of modern dance, live music, food, wine, and song. Choreography is presented by Jean Isaacs, Joe Goode and Gabe Masson. 2012 Performance Dates: Saturday, January 7 - 8 PM Sunday, January 8 & 15 - 6:30 PM San Diego Dance Theater will celebrate 40 years of presenting innovative dance in San Diego by launching a year long Ruby Red series of performances that will capture the unique signature quality of this long standing dance company. This year, "Cabaret Dances" features a mixed bag of dance offerings which includes two audience and critical favorites and one World Premiere. Guests will enjoy a more festive event than a traditional dance concert and get to enjoy a Cabaret club-like atmosphere complete with pre-show buffet supper, after-show dessert party, and cash bar. The program takes its cue from the mood and atmosphere of a nightclub. It will feature a reprise of "By George/By Jean," a tribute to the music of George Gershwin presented last season. It will also feature choreography by Isaacs and live music from Fred Benedetti (guitar), Steve Baker (piano) and Rachel Drexler (vocal). The evening will also feature "I don't want to be there," a multi media piece by noted choreographer, writer and director Joe Goode. Originally presented in San Diego in 2008, Goode uses text, projection, singing and spoke word to present a piece noted as "quirky, brilliant and with deep insight," Janice Steinberg. Last on the program will be a World Premiere by frequent San Diego Dance Theater collaborator Gabriel Masson, who will create the piece on the Company dancers during a workshop residency this December. A former dancer with minimalist dance legend Lucinda Childs and contemporary innovator Doug Varone, Masson created an intensely physical, musically off-beat "Museum Piece" for 2006 Trolley Dances that was remounted successfully for "Cabaret Dances" later that year. Featured company dancers include Blythe Barton, Annie Boyer, Alana Burree, Matt Carney, Anthony Diaz, John Diaz, Trystan Loucado, and Minaqua McPherson with Katie Harroff and Liv Isaacs-Nolett featured on vocals and text.
