Event Description

The new and exciting paintings of local artist Robert Gray, this event represents another showing of Robert Gray for the garage. The garage believes that culture happens from the ground up by nuturing local artists with dialogue, encouragement and the freedom to experiment. Artist... Bio Artist Bio A native San Diegan, I�ve resided in the South Park area for the majority of the last 55 years, and as an artist have worked in various mediums since the late 1960s, including collage, photography, and painting. Having had no formal training as an artist, I�m entirely self taught in the mediums I�ve worked in over the years, and have been working with acrylics since the late 1990s. The style of geometric abstraction currently employed was originally developed around 2001, utilizing acrylics worked into a finely brushed gesso surface most often laid in over cabinet grade plywood panels. The paintings are smoothly textured, yet where desired an illusion of depth is realized by applying brushwork that plays off the gesso surface, as well as overlays to either soften, or accentuate the primary color in use in a given area. I find each work/painting an exercise in creative discovery towards what can be achieved in process.
