Event Description Join us this season to experience a time, nearly two hundred years ago, with Nancy York, a pioneer ancestor long forgotten until now. In an intimate site-specific performance at Space 4 Art, memories are constructed as living dreams from a different time and place – an older, weirder America. The Desperate Characters of Mercer County incorporates sculptural manipulation, an Americana house band, and story telling both fabricated and true. Guests will be welcomed by Ben and Nancy as they serve up their small slice of the old America, alive again to tell it. Their story begins and ends in Mercer County, Missouri, where their civilized ways were lost to the dirt, where deep roots were laid and where redemption could be found in the baptismal waters along Thompson's River amongst the desperate characters – card players, moonshiners, and horse thieves.

Event Description For the first time, two Art Pulse Mentor Program graduates will have their work side by side in a single show called Oil and Glass, running July 5 through August 30 at Pulse Gallery (2825 Dewey Road, Point Loma). Featuring artists Daniel Ketelhut and Rob Morey, Oil and Glass is what happens when two mediums unite and share an aesthetic bond besides beauty; as if swirling together as one, Ketelhut’s movement-filled paintings and Morey’s grand glass sculptures mimic the relationship of oil and water with their distinct, yet united mix of patterns. Inside the artists’ works, a conversation takes place between abstract line formations where freedom, movement and the choreography between creator and materials becomes visibly apparent.
