Event Description ">

San Diego Sculptors Guild presents works “Transformation” by entrepreneur/inventor/scientist/sculptor Julia S. Rasor. For Julia, figurative sculpture satisfies an intense drive to connect through the “people” she creates. She is drawn to the vast expressive possibilities the human figure elicits and explores transformation of representational “natural” to abstract “mechanical” figures. Julia’s life experiences formed her nature/machine style dichotomy - riding horses/motorcycle racing; fluid body movement of ballroom dance/martial arts’ machine-like positions; gliding motion on a paddleboard/explosive strength of rock climbing-these experiences along with her life-long profession of medical device invention (machines to aid the body, www.MedicalDevice.com) established Julia’s unique figurative style that connects with so many people. A fellow artist described Julia’s style that connects with so many people, www.RasorsSculptures.com.

Event Description There's a chill in the air and festive jingles playing through store speakers... It's official! The holidays are here. The California Center for the Arts, Escondido (the Center) invites North County families to get into the spirit of the season by spending a December Saturday creating winter-themed crafts with the kids. Though known for the stellar acts that grace its stages, the Center is more than just a performing arts venue. Its mission is also firmly rooted in arts education and spurring creative invention and exploration in the younger generation. One way the Center's Education department accomplishes that important task is through its Second Saturdays program. Once every month, the Center offers free art and dance activities to engage and entertain the whole family. The one- to two-hour classes, held in Studios 1 and 3, explore art or movement. We provide the materials-- attendees just bring their creativity! The next Second Saturdays session will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 14. Following a winter theme, children will be making various ornaments as well as holiday bracelets and corn husk angels. All ages are welcome. No pre-registration is required. Just show up and have fun! For more information about Second Saturdays, contact Education Coordinator Kirsten Vega at (760) 839-4176 or kvega@artcenter.org. For updated craft information for a particular workshop, check the Center's website at www.artcenter.org/performances.

Event Description Characterized by intense urbanization, complex infrastructure, wide income disparities, rich histories of culture and nature, and tremendous intellectual capital, the Pueblo Watershed presents many challenges and opportunities. 8:30-11:00 am — In the Field: Ten teams will explore sites within San Diego’s Pueblo Watershed—a geographic area defined by how water flows over the landscape. Watershed exploration teams will collect scientific data and generate artistic observations. 12-2:00 pm — Woodbury School of Architecture: Teams will converge at the Woodbury School of Architecture to merge their data and observations. Large-scale projections of multi-layered geospatial data, juxtaposed with artistic interpretations of the Pueblo Watershed, promise to bring new insights about opportunities for innovation related to water supply and demand.
