Event Description new works by Ellen Dieter: Experience stacks upon experience, color on color, line over line, creating a metaphor for life. “I Wouldn’t Be Here Today Two Years Ago” defines the way I feel about life and painting. Without the experience of the past, today wouldn’t be today. Without the continued painting over days, weeks, months and years, my painting wouldn’t be where it is now. This work comes from a place within, yet is very much about the world as I see it. Color is the experience as shapes form through application of color. Mark making, adding on, taking away, nestling in, finding balance. Painting is a journey with an unknown destination. I revel in the quest of finding out where it will take me next….

Event Description Daniel Merriam, "My Little World"
Art speaks volumes, and portraits often say the most, though it is not simply a matter of copying a sitter’s figure and physical features. As is a tradition in great portraiture, Merriam includes objects and possessions to give insight into the figures' lives, defining and humanizing them. Merriam’s characters possess an aura of strength, delicacy, and dignity. The viewer senses each character’s unique personality not only because of Merriam's illustrative and portraiture skill, but because of his subtle, symbolic imagery.

Albrecht honors the ideas and inventions of women through interpretations in clay. Her work illuminates little-known or long-forgotten women, women who struggled to have their ideas recognized and whose contributions received less appreciation than their male counterparts. Inspired by Albrecht's art, the museum has invited local women to join the exhibit and present examples of their own inventiveness. April offers an opportunity to expereince art and invention and to become acquainted with a cadre of impressive women.
